2010 APW/NFPW Professional Communications Contest

Below please find information on the 2010 APW and NFPW Communications Contests, including entry forms, list of categories and a checklist to help with preparation.

Please note that contest entrants now have the ability to fill out the entry form on a computer to print out, or may continue to print and handwrite forms. PREPARE EARLY- ENTER OFTEN-SAVE MONEY. The APW Board of Directors approved a change in the fee schedule to help save entrants money on contest fees. The more entries submitted the more money saves. While the first entry costs $25, Each subsequent entry, regardless of what category, will cost only $10!

  • Thus, if you have two entries, you save $5;

  • three entries, save $15;

  • four entries, save $25, and so on

  • Earn a prize and recognition as an Arizona Newspapers Association award winner.

    IMPORTANT!

  • Use the check-list, which includes helpful info about dates, entry fees, format of entries.
  • Double check categories as some have changed from past years’ contests.
  • Please note: while the contest is titled “2010,” all entries must have been produced in the calendar year 2009.
  • The entry form has changed from last year. Now, entrants can type information directly onto the form and print it out.
  • Pay your 2010 dues before you enter, but do not send your dues with your contest entries! Click for information about joining NFPW or membership renewal.
  • First-place entries will not be sent to the national contest if the entrant has not paid 2010 dues.
  • State winners of first through honorable mention awards will be informed at conclusion of judging (in March) but will not be told which level of award they won. Winners will be announced at an awards dinner at the annual state conference, April 24-25 in metro Phoenix.
  • Judges are not obliged to give any award in any division. For example, a judge may choose to give an honorable mention in one division, or a second place, but not a first place.
  • First-place winners are entered into the national contest, which usually posts its results in June and will present awards at the 2010 NFPW Conference Aug. 26-28, 2010 in Chicago).
  • Book entries must be postmarked by Jan. 29
  • All other entries must be postmarked by Feb.5
