Arizona Press Women Annual Journalism Scholarship

APW offers $500 journalism scholarship

Arizona high school students who wish to study journalism at an Arizona college or university may be eligible for assistance from the Arizona Press Women Memorial Journalism Scholarship, sponsored by Arizona Press Women and the Arizona Newspapers Foundation.

Arizona Press Women, a statewide organization of professional communicators, established the $500 scholarship honoring the memory of Betty Latty-Hurlburt, a Phoenix journalist who died in 1997.

Applicants should be graduating high school seniors who intend to major in journalism at an accredited Arizona University or college.  Requirements include a letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, a statement of financial need, two writing samples and a one-page letter from the student, stating their background and the reasons they want to pursue a career in journalism.

Application deadline is March 21. The winner will be honored at a luncheon in May. For further information or applications, contact Arizona Press Women at 602-542-7578, or e-mail PRStevensn@aol.com.

Arizona Press Women established the $500 scholarship to honor the memory of several APW members and all Arizona women journalists who pioneered in a field once dominated by men.
