APW offers an annual $1,000 journalism scholarship
Arizona high school students who wish to study journalism at an Arizona
college or university may be eligible for assistance from the Arizona Press
Women Memorial Journalism Scholarship, sponsored by Arizona Press Women and
the Arizona Newspapers Foundation.
Arizona Press Women, a statewide organization of professional communicators, established the $1,000 scholarship honoring the memory of Betty Latty-Hurlburt, a Phoenix journalist who died in 1997.
Applicants should be graduating high school seniors who intend to major in journalism at an accredited Arizona University or college. Requirements include a letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, completed application, two writing samples and a one-page letter from the student, stating their background and the reasons they want to pursue a career in journalism.
For further information, e-mail scholarship chair Joan Westlake.

Read a note from a past scholarship winner!
May, 2009
Hope you remember me! This is Maria Hechanova. I was the 2005 Betty
Latty-Hurlburt Scholarship winner. I just graduated from Northern
Arizona University with a B.S. in electronic media and film and a minor
in public relations.
Good news! I was
selected to intern with NBC for 10 weeks this summer in New York with
the “Today” show. I found out about this program through the Asian
American Journalist Association.
Please visit my website and read this article for more information. I
just want to thank you again for the scholarship you gave me my senior
year of high school. It definitely encouraged me to pursue a career in
journalism.
